In Every Heartbeat, It Is Paid For {A Poem About 9/11}

4 Planes
3 buildings
1 Field
2 Nations Collide
September 11, 2001
4 Planes take off
They fly through the sky
Heading for destinations
Unknown to passengers, pilots, and air traffic controllers all three
2 Planes head up north
Heading to a place colored red
Two tall towers stand tall
Ready to face their grave fates
Mothers and Fathers
Brothers and Uncles
Sisters and Aunts
All fall with the first plane
An act of terrorism or an act of pure fate?
President Bush considers the conundrum
As he turns the pages of a children’s book

Soon, the second tower too is hit with a bang
It also is destined to go down in flames
Many brave men are trapped beneath the rubble
Chaos issues in the center of the world
The crisis isn’t over
The great nation is under siege
The military center falls also
Many brave men give up their lives trying to save those trapped inside the three buildings
Calls go out all over the world
To shut down all flights
To keep the world safe
Attacks are slowed down
Big Ben is kept safe
The English Parliament as well
One plane though continues it devilish flight
Heading straight towards the heart of our nation
A group of brave heroes gather in fear at the back of the plane to decide their own fate
They gather their courage
Say their goodbyes
They offer up their very last prayer
They race with one beat towards the cockpit with ease
They force the plane down
Right into a field

These men are the heroes
They saved many lives
They saved the heart of our nation
They gave up their lives
9/11 though is not over
It lives in our veins
It lives in our hearts
And in every military footstep
In every man sent overseas
In every life lost
Let the cry ring out
Let us not forget

We have been given a gift
A gift of freedom
This fragile gift though is not free
There is a price that must be paid
A price that is paid in every military tear
Every footstep that falls in a empty military home
It is paid in the cry of the thousands US troops
And it is paid for in every military child’s heartbeat
Let us remember 9/11
